Clearing Cache
The cache keeps files stored locally on your machine for faster browsing. This may pose a security risk in some situations. Make sure you are not on this site when you perform the following steps. Also after performing these steps go to several sites. cnn.com, ebay.com, google.com, etc. a blank history and cache is suspicious.

Below are brief instructions for clearing the cache on some common browsers.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x:

  1. Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. On the General tab in the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files.
  3. Check Delete all offline content.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click OK to close internet options.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x:

  1. Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. On the General tab in the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files.
  3. Check Delete all offline content.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click OK to close internet options.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x:

  1. Choose Internet Options from the View menu.
  2. On the General tab in the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files.
  3. Check the box next to Delete all subscription content
  4. Click OK
  5. Click the OK button to close the control panel

Microsoft Internet Explorer on a Macintosh

  1. Select Edit- Preferences
  2. Under the Web Browser option in the left hand frame, select Advanced
  3. Select Empty Now from the right hand frame in the Cache section.
  4. Click OK

Netscape 6.x:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Edit menu.
  2. Under Category, click Advanced and select the Cache subcategory.
  3. Click Clear Disk Cache and Clear Memory Cache.
  4. Click OK.

Netscape 4.x:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Edit menu.
  2. Under Category, click Advanced and select the Cache subcategory.
  3. Click Clear Disk Cache and Clear Memory Cache.
  4. Click OK.

AOL 6.x

  1. Choose Preferences from the My AOL menu.
  2. Click the General tab from WWW.
  3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete files.

AOL 4.x (AOL 4.x with Internet Explorer 4.x interface)

  1. Choose Preferences from the My AOL menu.
  2. Click the General tab from WWW.
  3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete files.

Windows 95, 98, 2000 and Windows NT

  1. Choose Settings, Control Panel from the Start menu.
  2. Double-click Internet Options.
  3. On the General tab in the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files.
  4. Click OK.

 


Clearing History
The history keeps a list of typed addresses (URLs) and visited sites. Again make sure you are not on this site when you perform the following steps. Also after performing these steps go to several sites. cnn.com, ebay.com, google.com, etc. a blank history and cache is suspicious.

Below are brief instructions for clearing the history on some common browsers.
 

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x:

  1. Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. On the General tab in the History section, click Clear History.
  3. Click Yes
  4. Click OK to close internet options.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x:

  1. Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. On the General tab in the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click OK to close internet options

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x:

  1. Choose Internet Options from the View menu.
  2. On the General tab in the History section, click Clear History.
  3. Click Yes
  4. Click the OK button to close the control panel
