Home
For most of us, our home is a place of security and relaxation. But for many people with low incomes, the
prospect of finding housing is a source of uncertainty and stress.
Housing Law Services
2,899 Women and children were assisted in finding permanent housing.
Deplorable housing practices, unlawful discrimination, unjust landlord practices and predatory lending are
all unnecessary barriers that individuals with low incomes need to overcome in order for them to have the
security that we all desire and deserve.
Issues with housing top the list of our clients' problems. More than 60 percent are concerned that utility
will be shut off and large numbers are also concerned about finding adequate housing or having their current
home foreclosed upon.
We will continue to provide assistance to applicants and tenants for public and federally assisted housing
to ensure that the application and operating procedures are carried out fairly and that tenants faced with
evictions have adequate representation. Decent shelter requirements include appropriate and affordable utility
service throughout the year and we will continue to focus our efforts towards that end when clients faced
with utility shut-offs are in need of legal assistance.
